While I’ve always looked for creative ways to work ‘dipshit’into any conversation, in John Edwards case, it doesn’t quite make it. Calling Edwards a dipshit – is in fact an insult to real dipshits. Unless of course the Dipshits organize and form some kind of National Dipshit Organization (NDO)and name Edwards as their leader – then it might be appropriate (lets hope they have good branding so we can recognize and see them coming, thus avoiding any unnecessary dipshit encounters). Edwards is the vermin that scurries around when the lights come on…the scary part is that someone with so few values – or courage to live by them – was that close to national office. Had he come 100% clean at the start – he would have been much better off.

jon, thanks for the insight. i wonder how/if people’s responses differ depending on where they are from. are peeps from north carolina more or less forgiving? maybe that’s asking too much. something tells me there is probably zero forgiveness across the country. as you said, he was a rockstar. his fall from grace is truly jaw dropping.

I lived in North Carolina for 11 years before moving back to Boston. The guy was a rock star. He had everything. And he’s thrown it all away with his choices. From presidental candidate to now giving Tiger a run for his money in the tabloids. Flabergasting.

meagan, it is hard to imagine her as the bad guy. any woman who has had to deal with losing a child, a terminal illness and a two-timing husband has the right to have moments of crabbiness. i think the dignity and grace by which she has navigated so many of life’s “lowest of lows” is nothing short of remarkable. i hope she is able to find peace soon. she deserves it.

John Edwards is a dipshit. I really hope that Quinn is able to grow up and feel valued and loved and confident despite the disfunctionality of her parents. I do feel it is the fame that got to his head…I think I vaguely remember him aluding to that back when all this stuff came…him saying that he got to the point where he felt he could get away with it.

I’m disgusted by John Edwards on so many levels. How could he put his wife Elizabeth through all of this heartbreak after all the pain she has had to deal with over the loss of a child and to his other children including Quinn. All of his actions have been politically motivated and latest admission wasn’t in the best interest of Quinn and his family, but in the best interest of his name.

meagan, i do think some of it is tied to fame. i thought about quinn too. i wondered if he was motivated to come clean because of her or because a former aide is publishing a book in two weeks that would have revealed all this dirt. we will probably never know. in the end, i hope quinn never feels that she was any less important to him than his other children. that would be tragic for everyone involved.

I think it is somehow tied to the fame – famous people (athletes, politicians whoever) have their egos stroked on a regular basis. I have to think that at some point, (the cheating ones at least) start to believe that they’re unlike the rest of us.

Amazing to me that he took so long to admit this – how sad for Quinn who will someday know that her father denied her to an audience of millions.
